If you want to succeed in anything, you must have the right mindset? What successful people have in common ? Are they more lucky than others? Is it by chance? Are they more intelligent and others not? How do we change our mind? Is that possible? I will try to explain the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

Your mindset is what makes you different from another person. I am a chemistry teacher and I am always stunned to see among my students how they react to failure. I often hear; “chemistry is too difficult, I will never understand anything.” It’s too bad to hear that and when I try to explain them, it’s not the subject but the mindset, they finally understand and do the job.

1. How do you define your mindset?

First of all, observe yourself, observe your thoughts. When you talk to yourself in general, what do you say? What do you say to yourself all day long? What the little voice in your head may say when you have to face adversity? Are you normally hesitate? Do you normally feel that you have no ability to achieve what you want? That’s the first step. This is your fixed mindset. At the end of this exercise, you will have a good idea of your fixed mindset. Just accept it for now. What is the next step?

2. Choose the right mindset

The opposite of a fixed mindset is the growth mindset. What do successful people have in common? They believe that they will succeed. This is not something that happened just by saying the word. You have to do what it takes to make it happen, TAKE ACTIONS, most of all, you have to start something. You have to make the move. By doing this, you are dictating your mind to follow the direction you want, as the result, you are building your growth mindset.

To build a growth mindset, you have to be vigilant about what you’re thinking all day long. At the beginning this exercise might be very fastidious, therefore you do not have to think that you will erase your fixed mindset (old habits) in one day. This process will take time and your job is to observe yourself and observe your thoughts and try to reformulate your saying. For example, you often said to yourself “This subject is too difficult for me, I will never understand it.” Replace this thought by this: “Ok, this subject is difficult but what can I do to understand it. I can ask someone to explain me.”

3. Take action

The next move is to take action. Now, you know that your mind is an instrument which is not static but malleable. Therefore you are now in a place where you can focus on what you want in your life. You have the ability to control what you want to accept in your life and what to reject. Believe me, the great majority of human beings don’t know that stage of the mind. Consider you are a privileged person and you have always the opportunity to do your best.
