Negative thoughts can arise at any time and it is true that many of our fears are based on our natural tendency to fuel negativity.
There is no human being who is sheltered from negative thoughts. It’s the very nature of things in life, but your job is to learn how to handle them.
It is true that some negative thoughts may be more tenacious than others, but if you do not confront them, they will always remain in the background to emerge at some point or another in your life.
Sooner or later, you must stop feeding your negativity. You have to face your negative thoughts anyway.
How to stop feeding your negativity?
You have to develop the ability to prioritize and focus on the things that are most important to you. You need to be vigilant at all times.
Being vigilant means not accepting or letting any thought or emotion disrupt your mental balance.
In clear, this requires a clear understanding of your values and what you want to be or what you want to have in your life.
You are the only master of your thoughts and emotions. All this takes time and you have to be patient.
Do not abandon. Emotions are managed and it takes practice. If you see that it does not work the first time, you have to persist and try again.
Keep this adage in a corner of your head, practice makes perfect.
1. Creating positive thoughts
Abraham and Hicks said that the law of attraction meets your thoughts and not your current reality. If you change your thoughts, your reality must follow accordingly.
If you are currently happy and things are going well in your life, just focus on your current state and keep on having the same thoughts and things will go for the better.
But if you have negative thoughts and you are surrounded by negativity, then it is paramount to find a way to divert your attention from these unwanted things.
You are able to change your negative thoughts and stop digging the negativity in you.
Start with small things. Identify what is positive throughout the day and fix your thoughts on it.
Moving from negative thoughts to positive thoughts requires patience and practice. You must be motivated, you must use perseverance, you must be disciplined.
2. Monitoring your conversation topics
Your thoughts have no power over you if you do not judge them. This is the principle of mindfulness.
When you are ruminating negative thoughts, try to detach yourself from them. Try to observe them and nothing else. You must not judge them.
When you have negative thoughts, you shut yourself away from the outside world and this prevents you from blossoming.
But when you adopt a positive attitude, you are more fulfilled and you open to your true potential.
When you adopt a positive attitude, you have the opportunity to build your life on a solid foundation.
If you change your way of thinking, you will have more confidence in yourself and your lifestyle will change accordingly.
By monitoring your inner conversations, you will know what patterns of thoughts you adopt. You have an effective means of control to help you choose the life you want.
By observing your inner conversations, you will have a great tool at your disposal to overcome all obstacles.
3. Start a new challenge
Life is a learning process. We never stop learning. There are always new challenges or new opportunities.
When you change attitudes and routines, you rise to another level as your mind is focused on your new challenge.
In fact, doing new things involves a new lifestyle, meeting new people, maybe visiting new places.
A sudden change in situation can help you project your life into a new perspective.
And this will surely help to eradicate your negative thoughts and negativity.
4. Improve self-esteem
When negative thoughts and the unhealthy effects of negativity arise, it is very often related to self-esteem. Find a quiet and pleasant place and try to observe yourself. Close your eyes and look at yourself, while remaining sincere and objective, how do you value your self-esteem?
Write on a sheet of paper all the things that come to your mind, whether personal or professional. The things you love and the things you hate about you. Your relationships with your entourage and how do you see life around you in general.
Can you admit, at this point, that you are your best friend? Can you stay a day alone with yourself without you getting bored?
Now take the sheet of paper and list all the positive points.
Take a new sheet of paper and write down your positive points. Focus on these positive points and close your eyes.
You will try to visualize yourself living with your positive points. Find people, places, senses, emotions that you like by visualizing yourself living with the positive aspects about you.
5. Life is made up of choices
Everything we do in life is the result of a decision. Life is made up of choices. You have the choice to accept what is happening to you and you also have the choice to refuse. Everything is a question of choice.
“It is your decisions, and not your conditions, that determine your destiny.”
― Anthony Robbins
Our life takes shape both in our decision-making moments and in our non-decision-making moments. How many times in our lives do we dare not do what we would like to do. When you realize and accept this, you have a wonderful opportunity to begin to become what you want to be.
Through discovering what you are, you are now able to understand that if you are unhappy at the moment, it is a choice you have made and you can change it for something else.
Henceforth, if you pay attention to what you think in order to carefully avoid the devastating effects of negativity and the emotions that accompany them, you will be able to make the right choices related to what you want in your life.
“Everyone is responsible for the thoughts they think and the things that they choose as their objects of attention.”
This will also allow you to see more clearly of your situation, and at the same time be more consistent with who you are and choose the life you want to lead.
The Dhammapada, an ancient Buddhist text, says:
“What you are now is the result of what you were. What you will be tomorrow will be the result of what you are now. The consequences of an evil mind will follow you like the cart follows the ox that pulls it. The consequences of a purified mind will follow you like your own shadow. No one can do more for you than your own purified mind–no parent, no relative, no friend, no one. A well-disciplined mind brings happiness.”
6. Make gratitude your attitude
When we are overwhelmed by negative thoughts, our mental is largely furnished by anxiety and stress. It’s normal; And we do not see in what and why, to feel gratitude. But gratitude is to take a positive look at life because it will bring you everywhere.
Gratitude is a moment of pure connection with your source where it reigns the Absolute Existence, Knowledge, Bliss, your True Nature. Be humble and compassionate with yourself and everything you love.
When you live your life in grace and gratitude, you have a life filled with joy and peace. It may happen that you face some obstacles, but you are beyond all this and they will not deceive you anymore.
7. Don’t listen to what other people say: Go for it!
Turbo is an American animated film directed by David Soren and produced by DreamWorks Animation.
I have seen this film with my kids at least a dozen times. There are two features of the film that I found essential to discuss with my children: They are
(1) “Never give up” and
(2) “Don’t listen to what other people say.”
The plot: I’m not going to go into any details in this article, you can find all the information here.
Turbo and his older brother, Chet, are two garden snails. Turbo has a dream, he wants to be the greatest racer in the world.
But Chet is a pessimist and afraid to take risks. He loves his life in the garden and does not want his brother to dream of speed racing.
Moreover, he finds this idea ridiculous and his slogan is “do not do” and “who does not try anything risks nothing.”
Chet has always refused to support Turbo in achieving his dreams. He even urged Turbo to stop dreaming. But Turbo never listened to his older brother. With courage and perseverance, Turbo was able to surpass all obstacles.
Through his stubbornness, Turbo ended up finding people (Tito, the taco truck driver) who believed in him, not letting himself be stopped by the evil tongues who do not dare to believe in dreams.
Chet, who was a pessimist, underwent a paradigm shift at the end. He finally aligned himself with his brother, Turbo. He was even alarmed when he saw Turbo, wounded a few meters from the finish line, wanting to abandon the race, when he was so close to the finish line.
All of a sudden, Chet makes the decision to help his brother by putting himself in danger to support Turbo’s morale and asks him to finish the race.
If you have a dream, do not waste your time and effort trying to make others understand, go ahead and others will follow you.
8. Practicing acceptance
Acceptance is accepting what is there at the present moment. Whatever your current situation, try to accept it instead of fighting it.
Stop beating yourself up because you don’t like your life right now. If you are here, it is precisely because you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. There are no mistakes. There is a whole series of events, choices, influences that have led you to your current situation.
If you continue to fight against circumstances and disappointments, this will inevitably end up with frustration, exhaustion and negative thoughts.
Acceptance does not mean resigning yourself, but rather recognizing and accepting that, where you are in your life at this moment, flows from previous events, previous negative thoughts and the unhealthy effects of negativity.
Your negative thoughts and negativity are valuable insights that you can lean on and use as a springboard to move forward. You must stop immediately this pattern of negative thoughts and the effects of negativity and focus all your attention on the things you want in your life. You can rebuild your life at any moment.
And by adopting a new way of thinking, you will be able to rebuild the lifestyle you want.
9. Mindfulness – To be in the Now
When we are stressed and anxious, and we are overwhelmed by our negative thoughts, it is not easy to get out of this infernal spiral without outside help.
Mindfulness meditation has proved to be very beneficial because it increases the range of attention and has a soothing effect on the mind.
By observing your thoughts (negative or positive), you become again the conscious observer. This allows you to detach yourself from all the negative and / or positive thoughts that arise.
“If you are vigilant and make a stern effort to reject every thought when it rises, you will soon find that you are going deeper and deeper into your own inner self, where there is no need for your effort to reject the thoughts.”
― Ramana Maharshi
Therefore, mindfulness meditation becomes a very effective tool that allows you to realign yourself to your inner being.
With practice and perseverance, you will gain more discipline, development and accomplishment of goals, attention and self-esteem.
10. Give meaning to your life
Negative thoughts and negativity arise when you have suffered a failure and / or you have no project for your life; The result, you get bored. And when you get bored, negative thoughts arise, it’s an endless cycle.
Give meaning to your life means, do what you love and love what you do. If you do not like your job, well, now is the time to find another one or become your own boss.
Change your lifestyle and live your life with passion. Find the reason for your existence and live every day as it is the last.
When you live your life with passion, you are spreading a powerful positive energy and you have more self-confidence.
“What you are living is always an exact replication of your vibrational patterns of thought. Nothing could be more fair than life as you are living it, for as you are thinking, you are vibrating, and as you are vibrating, you are attracting—for by the Law of Attraction, you are always getting back the essence of what you are giving.”
The law of attraction states that you always get back what you’re putting out. You will always receive the energy you are projecting. If you activate and project positive thoughts (positive energy), you will receive replicas of the same kind.
